It's been over thirty years since viewers first saw Gordon Bombay (played by Emilio Estevez) coach that rowdy troupe of misfit kids in The Mighty Ducks. The Pee-Wee hockey team gifted fans with an ensemble of memorable characters who, though different, banded together for a common goal on the ice. The film franchise was so impactful that, years later, writer Steven Brill developed a follow-up to the film titled The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.
After all this time, even with a new cast of misfits, it's hard to forget some of the original members of the Ducks. Fans were shocked when they saw some of their favorites reprise their roles with guest appearances on an episode in The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers. Time flies and so did many of the original Ducks, and in many different directions after the original trilogy ended. Here's what some of the original cast members of The Mighty Ducks has been up to since starring in the epic film trilogy.
Elden Henson played outsider-turned-teammate Fulton Reed in The Mighty Ducks trilogy. Since then, Henson has been cast in a number of supporting roles in films like She's All That, Idle Hands, Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd, and The Butterfly Effect. Most fans probably recognized him when he played the mute character, Pollux, in the first two The Hunger Games films.
The actor also delved into the realm of Marvel, portraying Foggy Nelson on The Defenders and Daredevil, appearing also, on Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. Henson, like many of his Mighty Ducks costars, made a guest appearance in the first season of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.
Elden Hensen's younger brother, Garette Ratliff Henson played Guy Germaine in The Mighty Ducks. Following that, Henson had appearances in Casper, Three Wishes, The Mannsfield 12 and Babes. The actor also had guest roles on the Melrose Place and NCIS. Henson has also taken his talents behind the camera and worked as a gaffer and assistant cameraman on a few projects.
In addition to this, Henson is a writer, producer and director. Henson has written and directed video shorts The Run and Green Eggs. He also won and Art With Impact award in 2014 for his film Without Beauty.
Marguerite Moreau played kind, yet tough, Connie Moreau (aka "The Velvet Hammer") in The Mighty Ducks. In the 90s, Moreau had appearances on Boy Meets World and Blossom. In 2001, the actress starred in Wet Hot American Summer alongside actors Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler and Bradley Cooper.
Moreau has also had recurring on shows like Shameless, Grey's Anatomy, and Parenthood and has starred in Wet Hot American Summer prequels First Day of Camp and 10 Years Later. Moreau, too, appeared on The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.
Vincent LaRusso played Hawks-turned-Ducks player Adam Banks in the trilogy film series. After working in the films, LaRusso stepped away from acting and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Boston University. Though he does not act as much anymore, LaRusso is still very much involved in fan events and reunions associated with The Mighty Ducks and has, of course, made a guest appearance reprising his role on The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.
Matt Doherty played the wise-cracking goofball Les Averman. The actor graduated with a theater degree from Northwestern University in 1999, Since starring the in the film trilogy, the actor has appeared in films like So I Married an Axe Murderer, Graduation Night, Hollows Grove and South of Sunset. In addition to film work, Doherty has also guest starred on Boston Public, Grey’s Anatomy, Bones, Franklin & Bash and Rosewood.
Doherty also runs a private workshop for writers in Los Angeles. He is also a co-moderator on the playwright's panel for the Antaeus Playwright's lab. The actor released his debut album titled Dignity in 2018.
Shaun Weiss who played the Ducks' ever-hungry goaltender, Goldberg. The actor went on star in Heavyweights, Pumpkin, Four Dogs, Mad and the short Netflix & Chill. Weiss also had recurring roles on Here and Now, Mr. Rhodes, The Tony Danza Show and Freaks and Geeks.
Things later took a for Weiss in 2017 when he was sentenced to 150 days for petty theft. In 2018, the star was arrested for public intoxication and again in 2020, for burglary while under the influence of methamphetamine. As of January 2022, the actor has celebrated being sober for two years from a meth addiction and has expressed interest in using his experience to help others who struggle with substance issues.
Colombe Jacobsen-Derstine played the Ducks' quick-reflex goalie, Julie "The Cat" Gaffney. The actress, similarly to many of her other costars pursued academia after starring in the film trilogy, graduating for Sarah Lawrence College in 2000. Shortly after, Jacobsen-Derstine attended the Natural Gourmet School in New York, where she graduated in 2004. While she was in culinary school the actress also had roles in films Men in Black II, Moonlight Mile, and Searching for Haizmann.
Jacobsen-Derstine competed in the 2007 season of The Next Food Network Star. She also currently hosts Colombe du jour, a food-oriented website and blog of her own.
Aaron Lohr played the habitual roughhousing Bash Brother Dean Portman who joined the team in the second film in The Mighty Ducks trilogy. Lohr has had other roles in the 90s on shows like Sister, Sister and Teen Angel, and also portrayed The Monkees drummer Micky Dolenz in the television film Daydream Believers: The Monkees' Story.
Lohr has quite an extensive career in theater as well, appearing in the 2005 film adaption of the musical Rent. The actor also had many roles in Michael John LaChiusa's See What I Wanna See at the New York Public Theater, opposite actress/singer Idina Menzel who, in 2017, he married.
Emilio Estevez played the Ducks' father-figure coach in the trilogy. After starring in the film, Estevez took shifted into directorial work. His television directing credits include The Guardian, Cold Case and Numb3rs. The actor has also directed episodes of CSI: NY and Criminal Minds.
Estevez also starred in The West Wing and The Way alongside his father Martin Sheen and even appeared in an episode of Two and a Half Men opposite his brother, Charlie Sheen. He also appeared in 2018's The Public, starring Taylor Schilling, Jeffrey Wright and Alec Baldwin.
Joshua Jackson played the Ducks' fearless captain Charlie Conway. Since playing the Conway over 25 years ago, the actor has had a very successful career. Jackson starred as charming joker Pacey Witter in Dawson's Creek, jack-of-all-trades Peter Bishop in Fringe, and Cole Lockhart on The Affair. He appeared in Netflix's When They See Us and Hulu's Little Fires Everywhere. In 2017, Jackson also made his Broadway debut in the revival Children of a Lesser God.
Jackson began a relationship with British actress Jodie Turner-Smith in 2018. They secretly married in December 2019 and have a daughter, born in April 2020.
