Jeremiah O’Dowd was the celebrity father of George Alan O’Dowd who is known professionally as Boy George and is an English singer, songwriter, DJ, author, and mixed media artist. Best known for his soulful voice and his androgynous appearance, Boy George has been the lead singer of the pop band Culture Club since the group’s formation in 1981.
Jeremiah O’Dowd universally known as Jerry was a construction worker who had also been an amateur boxer in his day. He was macho and prone to expressing dissatisfaction by throwing his dinner plate across the room. Boy George often encouraged his mother to leave his father.
O’Dowd was born in Egypt and he, unfortunately, passed away in 2004 at the age of 72. He holds Irish nationality.
O’Dowd was survived by his wife Dinah O’Dowd who just passed away at the age of 84, and his six children namely Richard O’Dowd, Gerald O’Dowd, David O’Dowd, Boy George, Siobhan O’Dowd, and Kevin O’Dowd.
