People who watched Home Improvement in the past now revisit it through YouTube every now and then. It is one of the most entertaining TV shows out there, loved by viewers throughout its running time.
Home Improvement was about the Taylor family and a lot of people are now curious about the youngest member, Mark Taylor. Actor Taran Noah Smith worked in more than 200 episodes of Home Improvement, but can’t be found anywhere in the limelight now.
Taran Noah Smith, famously known as Mark Taylor, was loved by the audience for being an extremely adorable child star. So, what happened to him after Home Improvement and why did he quit acting?
Where a lot of people get addicted to fame, things were pretty different with Taran Noah Smith. This child star was relieved when Home Improvement ended. Though he thought this opportunity was interesting, and he got it quite early in his age, he showcased his relief when the show had finally bid adieu.
According to the actor, not going back to the Home Improvement set every day would be depressing, but at the same time, he was happy that he didn’t have to be a part of the contract anymore
One major reason Taran Noah Smith felt burnt out and decided to stop acting for a while after Home Improvement was that his acting career began quite early in his life.
He was the youngest son of Tim Taylor and Jill Taylor. His elder brothers were played by Zachery Ty Bryan and Jonathan Taylor Thomas. Hence, Taran was the youngest of all the actors on the set.
Taran was merely seven years old when he joined Home Improvement and was 16 years of age when it finally ended. While talking about this, he said that becoming an actor was never really his decision, as he was too young to decide. Hence, once the show came to an end, he could really decide his future for himself.
After the show ended, Taran Noah Smith was not really in the news. However, later, he again became a part of the headlines in the year 2001 for a very interesting reason. This time it was because he got married at the very early age of 17.
But that’s not all. The woman that Taran married was 16 years older than him. He says his marriage with Heidi Van Pelt was purely out of love. This huge age difference between the partners brought the actor back into the news.
Taran Noah Smith and Heidi Van Pelt filed for divorce in the year 2007, just five years after the marriage. When they first met, Heidi was 30 and Taran was merely 14. Their romance led to marriage and then eventually ended in a divorce.
For Van Pelt, the reason for divorce was the excessive partying habits of Taran that didn’t go over well with her. She also said that despite her loyalty towards her husband, he had done her wrong many times which led to this separation.
Contrary to the famous belief that a lot of people have, Home Improvement is not the only show Taran Noah Smith has been featured in. He has done many other shows including Ebbie and Little Bigfoot 2: The Journey Home.
However, these productions couldn’t reach the level of success of Home Improvement. This is why it is still considered the most recognized and prominent part of the Taran’s journey.
Taran Noah Smith had an ugly spat with his parents when he blamed them for living off his money. He believed that his parents were actually squandering the fortune he had made through his show Home Improvement. Things got really bad and came out in the public.
However, the actor's mother, Candy Bennici, denied the fact that the parents were involved in using their son's money. Rather, she claimed that the money Taran earned from Home Improvement was actually in a trust fund. Hence, even if they wanted to touch it, they wouldn’t be able to. Even Taran couldn’t get his hands on them till the time he was 18.
The parents accused Taran’s wife of having ill intentions toward the actor’s money. In her defense, Heidi Van Pelt said that though she had a way of earning money for herself, Taran wasn't working at the time, which made it tough for the couple to make ends meet. Hence, the easiest possible route they could find to have some money was through the trust fund.
Taran Noah Smith didn’t have a good relationship with his parents for a very long time. Taran’s mom, Candy Bennici, wrote a book titled "Stardom Happens," in which she talked about her experience in making her son a child star. She expressed her regret and said that she was unable to realize what the contract could mean in the long run. Also, she confessed to being unaware of who Tim Allen really was.
She further adds that she should have given the choice of decision-making to her son, rather than pushing him in front of the camera a very tender age. She, somehow, blames herself for overexposing Taran too early in his life.
Despite being away from the limelight, Taran Noah Smith continued doing good work. For instance, in the year 2014, he went all the way to the Philippines to aid a community that was devastated by a hurricane.
He worked with a disaster relief organization, named Communitere, and aided the affected people. As a part of this organization, he even helped people rebuild their destroyed houses and fix them back.
Another major reason Taran Noah Smith didn't return to acting was that he became vegan and opened a food company called Playfood. This company is dedicated solely to providing food options to those who were strictly vegan. Being the owner of a food company, Taran naturally couldn't find the time to do anything else!
Apart from running a food company, Taran has also performed as an installation artist in quite some big events such as Coachella. Alongside this, he has been pretty busy working with his father in creating water purifiers that are energy efficient.
That's not all! Currently, he works as a Technical Manager in a company named Community Submersibles and resides on a sailboat.
